Polish Sausage in Gdansk We gave you a recap of how we did at our tournaments in the last newsletter but when we weren't playing we had some fun adventures. We met a lot of really great people in Poland and everything seemed to turn out in our favor with the exception of our first couple of hours in Gdansk. Let me bring you back to that night. . .
. . .Kara, Coach Cam, Janai and myself arrive in Gdansk at about midnight and grab a cab to take us to the apartment we rented online. "Mama" (the mother of the lady from whom we had rented the apartment) is supposed to meet us to let us in. We arrive at the apartment and to our horror it's completely dark and nobody answers the door. Our Cab driver, Mietek, is worried about us so he calls "Mama" repeatedly on his cell phone. Half an hour later, after no progress, we decide to find a cheap hotel. And aren't we lucky, quite literally - we find Lucky Sopot Hotel ... can you picture it? After we settle in at about 1:30am, Jania, Cam and Kara decide to use the internet in the hallway. All of a sudden, they hear footsteps coming up the stairs and who should arrive but our cab driver Mietek... and he has brought Mama with him, who is very apologetic about the situation. We made fast friends with Mama and with Mietek, who came the next day to take us to an apartment. From that moment on, everything in Poland seemed to work out in our favour! We even found the best pierogi and Polish sausage ever! |
