There was really no contest when it came to deciding the April Teammate of the Month (although Harley the dog was a close runner up!). Cam was our leader, our comic relief and our skilled technician during our month-long training camp in California. There was an immediate connection between the three of us that allowed us to laugh as hard as we trained, to enjoy every moment and learn the most possible in such a short time.
Cam is the perfect addition to Team Mizara (now renamed “GAMizara” by Cam). Along with our trainer & MAT Therapist Ken Phu in Toronto, and our extensive support staff - some of whom have been highlighted in these newsletters - we have committed to a new team goal: to win a GOLD MEDAL at the 2012 Olympics in London, England! I have never been more confident in our ability to achieve such an outstanding goal as I was the night Cam agreed to support us in the Head Coach position! At that moment, I was completely overwhelmed since I could actually feel the gold medal around my neck already!
Thank you Head Coach Cam for your guidance, inspiration . . . and fun! |

On April 8th, 2008, the Canadian Minister of Health introduced Bill C-51
into the House of Commons. This Bill proposes significant changes to
the current Food and Drugs Act that will have wide-ranging negative
implications for all Canadians. This bill has already passed first reading.
It appears that our Government is trying to fast track this bill before
anyone has a chance to challenge it. Bills normally take months to pass
not weeks.
Currently, many of our councilors and MPPs are even unaware of the details to Bill C-51. How can we, as Canadian citizens, be informed when our government representatives don't even know about it?
April 9, 2008: Bill C-51 has passed it's first reading
Second reading scheduled for May 8, 2008
There is a rally and march happening on Saturday, May 10, 2008 starting at 10:30am.
Location: Queen's Park (meet at the south side front entrance)
Time: 10:30am sharp - march starts at 11am
Bill C-51 Will:
- Remove democratic oversight, bypassing elected officials to vote in laws and allow bureaucrats to adopt laws from other countries without our consent.
- Remove 60-70% of all Natural Health Products from Canadian stores. Many others will be available by prescription only.
- Restrict research and development of safe and natural alternatives in favour of high risk drugs.
- Punish Canadians with little or no opportunity for protection or
recourse for simply speaking about or giving a natural product without
the approval of government. More than 70% of people in Canada use a
Natural Health Product. The new law goes so
far as to warrant action against a person who would give another person
an “unapproved” amount of garlic on the recommendation that it would
improve that person’s health.
- Allow inspectors to enter private property without consent, take your property at their discretion, dispose of your property at will, not reimburse you for your losses, seize your bank accounts, charge owners shipping and storage charges for seized property, be empowered to store your property indefinitely, and levy fines up to $5,000,000 and/or 2 years in jail per incident.
Here's what you can do to protect your rights:
- Go to www.chfa.ca to find out even
more information about Bill C-51 and download some sample letters that
you can send to your local MP
- Contact your local MP (visit www.snipurl.com/localmp to find yours)
- Sign this Online Petition
- Talk to your local press
- Ask the leaders in your community to get involved
- Contact your MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly)
- Tell your Friends, Family and Neighbours

After only 8 months as an official team, Team Mizara has achieved their first big milestone (of many) in their career, after winning the Dockweiler Beach Volleyball Open in Los Angeles County last weekend. In scorching 35 degree weather, we played some solid beach volleyball, winning all of our 7 matches that day. The highlight of the tournament was definitely beating the Polish National Team in the semi finals, by keeping a 2 point lead the whole match.
We really felt in control, and carried this momentum into the final match which we won by more than 10 points. Liz and I would like to thank our cheering section - MJ, Nat & Kris who braved the heat along with us, and cheered us on to victory. We'd also like to thank our superstar Coach Cam Green, who actually thought 'eh' was spelled 'A'- heehee. Keep checking back for more updates.

After only 3 days of training outside with our California coach Cam Green, Liz and I finished 5th in the Santa Monica California Beach Volleyball Tournament! What a great way to start out our pre-season training outside! The weather was beautiful, only a bit windy and the competition was tough as well.
Our play improved as the day went on, culminating in a tight 1/4 final loss to the Polish National Team! We'll have the chance to match up against them again next weekend, as we play in our second tournament of the season. We'll keep you posted as the training and competition progresses. Please keep the positive vibes coming.
